Now residential energy consumption can be shared with a Crestron processor and our new TED 5000 module. The 5000 is built by Energy Inc and is an updated version of the previous module the TED 1000. The 5000 is a significant update to the original product as the 5000 does not rely on storing data consumption on a PC. Instead the data is sent to a dedicated module that has an embedded web server to serve up values and allow access to setup functions. You can order the 5000 in a variety of different configurations. We used the "headless" configuration to develop the module.
The 5000 can be ordered online from the TED online store. The simplest configuration is for a single point of monitoring, such as a residential 200 amp service entrance. This specific model is the TED 5000-G and sells for only $199.95. This part number includes a pair of CT's (current transformers) and the MTU. The CT's clamp on the main leads into the panel and send the consumption data to the MTU (measuring transmitting units). The MTU then transmits the data to the Gateway which stores the data.
It should also be noted that TED is a Google PowerMeter partner. This means that in addition to viewing the data directly on the TED 5000 or through our module you can also share the data with the PowerMeter tool and view it on your iGoogle homepage. Various models of the TED 5000 allow you to monitor up to 4 sources and then aggregate this data with PowerMeter.
A large amount of data is available through the module, here is a summary:
- Support for up to 4 MTU's (measuring transmitting units) or points of measurement
- Voltage - current, daily low, daily high, MTD low and MTD high
- Current - KW snapshot, KW for the last hour, KW for the day, projected KW for the month
- Costs - current cost calculation, cost per hour, today's cost, MTD cost, projected cost for the month
- Sub-modules to allow for serial module outputs into scalable gauges
- Historical - for hourly, daily and monthly data
